Disaster Restore of Samba Active Directory is not working correctly. Again the beta and all the RC’s worked correctly with Disaster Restore of Samba Active Directory, but not with the final version though. I’m again disappointed the NethServer 7 Final. I would do a virtual NethServer 7 and backup/restore this virtual.
For this post, I did a backup and restore for the server in this post Installing and Configuring NethServer 7 Final for Samba Active Directory and simple File Sharing.
Installing and Configuring Backup
Go to the Software Center on the left sidebar and click on the Backup.
Click on the Add on top, and then it goes to Apply Changes to confirm.
After installing the Backup it ask you to Enable Backup.
By default backup time is 1:00 and the type is Incremental. I change to Full and using a USB disk, I selected it.
In the Notification tab by default the Notify is with an error to the System Administrator.
Disaster Restore with Samba Active Directory
If the NethServer with Samba AD server dies, but I hope not 😦 , but if it does I hope it’s a virtual and you have the backup the virtual.
The NethServer Disaster Recovery with Samba Active Directory is suppose to restore everything that old server has and should be the same, but it doesn’t. According the NethServer 7 Release re Backup, you should rebuild the basic server and also install in other component(s) you have the old server, including Samba Active Directory and the Backup.
Then enable the Backup to the backup directory and then, using on the server itself or a ssh to the server, do a ‘restore-config’ command:
root@dc1 ~]# restore-config
Then it make sure all the component(s) are correct in the new server, and then do a ‘restore-data’ command:
[root@dc1 ~]# restore-data
UPDATE 03-02-2017: It again it seems to be restored, but it’s not. Not only the File Shares are only working for the administrator, you are only partially connected the domain.
But after doing a restore-config command, I get an error message on the Dashboard, on the User and Groups, and the Account Provide page:
The Domain Accounts page, another error:
But at least the ‘docs’ share folder has no errors:
Testing with Windows 10
Using the Windows 10 I used earlier in this post, I tried log in as the admin account but can’t because the server does not have this computer account.
I un-joined the domain and join the computer back to the bales.lan, and it works. But when trying to the access the ‘docs’ shared folder it gives a Network Error.
