Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (or mbam, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware) is a superb virus checker. The free one checks your computer and quarantined the viruses. The paid one does that too and it also protect you.
I would recommend scanning once each month or if your computer acting fishing or going very slow.
Go to Malwarbytes Anti-Malware website using Interent Explorer, Edge (Windows 10 only), Chrome or Firefox, and click on Download near the center of the page. Note: I using Internet Explorer and you might be a little different if you are Chrome or Firefox.
After click the Download page, it will show several types of Download. Click on the Download Free Version near bottom left.
Click on ‘Yes’ on the UAC (User Account Control) screen:
Click on ‘OK’ on your language (unless you want to change to another language).
Click on the ‘Next’ on the first initial settings screen.
Then click ‘I accept the agreement’ and then ‘Next.
Click on ‘Next’ on the Improvement and Issues page.
Click ‘Next’ on the Selection Destination Location page.
Click Next on the Select Start Menu Folder page.
Click on Next or uncheck ‘Create a desktop icon’ if you don’t want a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware shortcut on your desktop, then check Next.
Click on Install on ‘Ready to Install’ page.
If you don’t want to test the Premium (to be paid after 14 days if you want to keep the Premium), Uncheck ‘Enable free trial of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium’ and then Finish.
After finishing installing it Malwarebyte Anti-Malware opens and the first step it does is automatically update.
Then it’s ready to scan. Click on ‘Scan Now’ at the bottom and it does the following in this order: Pre-Scan Operations, Scan Memory, Scan Startup Files, Scan Registry, Scan File System and then something called Heuristic Analysis. Heuristic Analysis is a way for virus-checking program to detect unknown viruses by the way it behaved to confirmed viruses.
You might have scan more than once if the virus is still there, that is if you have one or more. Reboot each time you do it though. Also scan in Safe Mode* (see below) if the virus is really ugly.
If it’s really badly ugly virus, do a full scan and not quick scan, which Scan Now does. Go into Scan, Custom Scan and click on Configure Scan, click on C and Scan Now.
In this example no infected files were found and no threats were identified. Click on Finish and it’s go back to Scan Now page. You can scan or close it by hitting the X at the top right.
scanning with infected files:
Unfortunatley you might have some infected files. While scanning it will show with a orange dot next to the Detected Objects with a number found so far.
When it’s done scanning it show how many threat are found and ask you to want Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to remove them. Click on Remove Selected.
When it’s done removing them it will show how many (hope all of them!) has been quarantined and depending on what type of infected files you have, it will ask you to reboot. Reboot and you should have no more infected files.
You’re done 🙂
scanning again later on:
I would recommend scanning once each month or if your computer acting fishing or going very slow. Click on the shortcut and each time it will show the ‘User Account Control’ page. Click on Yes.
Then click on the Update button on the middle right to make sure it’s up to date with viruses detecting software.
Then click on Scan Now button. And repeat with scanning.
